Mistakes in fatha/zabar, kasra/zer, dhamma/pesh often (not always) alter the meaning of the Arabic words. Hence such mistakes should be prompted to the Imaam by the listeners following the imam.
Mistakes of elongation / madd do not alter the meaning so may be overlooked.
Minor mispronunciations of the makhraj may be overlooked
